Community development

The idea behind Africa on the Ball is to develop each community through football. By simply having a team participating in competitive football, each player gains focus and discipline and is less tempted by the likes of drugs and alcohol.

Where a team player’s home situation cannot support education fees, the programme aims to secure sponsorship for the individual to complete their studies. Should a player be sponsored to go school, they are expecting to return the favour in kind to their community, whether it be by delivering reading sessions in an orphanage or litter picking in their community.

Each player is expected to, and does, act like a role model, promoting a positive and productive attitude around the community, thus setting a good example for those that look up to them. Training sessions and matches are also used to educate life skills such as team work, communication and leadership.
